Scrolling through the titles on YouTube — those I have saved to listen to later — the image caught my attention.

I mean, come on!

Just look at it. Those strong arms, the look on his face, and then… the body.

Yummy, don’t you think?

Since the story matters more than the cover, I started listening, and soon I was hooked!

About the author, T L Swan

T L Swan — there really are no periods between those initials — used to work for the Australian Schizophrenia Fellowship, living in Sydney, and always wanted to write. But she was too busy, too tired, too unsure of her talent. When she finally took the plunge to write, she was eternally grateful she did, and soon became happily addicted to her writing and loved bringing to life sexy stories with beautiful characters.

In her own words, from her website:

Originally from Sydney, I now reside in a dreamy beachside town on the South Coast of Australia with my hunk of a hubby, our three children and a menagerie of spoilt pets.

I love Margaritas, Chocolate and a swoony good book with a strong storyline. With a background in Mental Health, I write characters that you want to be friends with, strong alphas to fall in love with and witty women you want to be.

When I’m not writing you will find me in a cafe drinking coffee and eating cake.

Other books by T L Swan are her Stanton series (8 books), Mr Series (3 books), Miles High Series (3 books), and The Italian Series (2 books). The second book in the Alastar Series has not been released yet, and she has two standalone books, Our Way, and Play Along.

You can read several books in the mentioned series on their own, but as T L Swan says: the order listed is the best way to read them to avoid any spoilers and for the timeline of the series to make sense.

A good mix of eroticism and violence

The main character — Roshelle — witnesses a murder when she’s running away from seeing her boyfriend kissing her best friend. Being seen by the murderers, they kidnap her, and Roshelle finds herself on a ship. A cargo ship, where she’s ‘rescued’ by Mac from being used by all the crew, just like they do the prostitutes they take on the voyage with them.

Mac keeps her in his room, and while he’s working during the day, she discovers he’s not who he says he is. In their close encounters, a relationship starts between them. The sex scenes are hot.

Seriously hot.

Mac is not the only one with secrets. One day, he witnesses Roshelle taking out a man, and wonders if she’s police or part of the armed forces. He never guesses her secret, but eventually Roshelle tells him. It turns out they have a mutual enemy: Roshelle’s father. However, Roshelle is running from him, while Mac is working for him.

Mac wants to protect Roshelle, but Roshelle can take care of herself. And, as it turns out, she can also take care of Mac. From the ship, they go to Columbia, then back to the ship, and then back off it, and eventually end up in Las Vegas. And in between all their experiences, they have the hottest sex — explicitly written sex scenes!

I really enjoyed this book, and would certainly have even without the many sex scenes in it. The plot is good and strong, with enough happening to keep you on the edge of your seat!

Complaints about the book

While searching for information on T L Swan, I came across some reviews of Play Along. Some people complained about the writing style, others about the pace of the book (too fast) and yet again others mentioned the author should have done more research on how long it takes to go from the US to Columbia by ship.

I don’t share any of those complaints, but the one thing I would like to add here is that, no matter how hot the sex scenes were, there eventually is a ‘pattern’ in the sex they have. So, what I am saying is that towards the end of the book, the sex scenes got somewhat boring.

Nonetheless, the plot is strong enough to keep the book entertaining. I enjoyed it!
