Riding like Paul Revere
My passion for being a foreigner | Letter to a friend.
Hey Saraña,
I don’t know if it is that obvious that I love Gorillaz, but it surprised me that you recommended a song by them to me! I don’t think I’ve heard New Gold by them before, but the chorus sounds very familiar! I know I’ve heard the chorus before, but I’ve never heard the verse/rap portion.
Speaking of the song’s verse, I lit up when I heard him say “Paul Revere” in the first verse!
I recently discovered a song titled Paul Revere by Gregory Alan Isakov and Noah Kahan. I’ve never heard of Noah Kahan before, but I’m a die-hard Gregory fan. I love that song. I love the way Noah says “Paul Revere” in the chorus. His voice bends in “Revere,” reminding me of when I was a kid. In the countryside, in Haiti, I would go explore forests with my friends. Sometimes, in an open space, we would throw rocks at nothing — at the distance. My friends would throw their rocks at an angle and with a force that, as the rock shreds and curves through the air, it makes the sound of a tight string oscillating after being tugged. I don’t know how to explain it, but — gosh — it was the most fascinating thing! I will shamelessly admit that I tried repeatedly, but I was never able to make that sound when I threw my rocks…
