The sun hasn’t shone as bright since the day of early spring ’01. My mother and I were in the car, cruising through the freeway so that we may watch Shrek. Whenever my mom went on an outing or shopping, I was her traveling companion. If I’m lucky, she might buy me a toy or go someplace to eat. So I’ll get treated to a day of thrills and adventure.

Little did I know, after my mom and I finished viewing Shrek, she’ll take me to the coolest place any kid would enjoy. I would blast the car stereo with the Shrek soundtrack on our way to see Shrek. “I’m A believer” by Smash Mouth gripped me, but one tender ballad I enjoyed provoked the earworm: “Hallelujah.”

It’s alarming. At such a tender age, I would appreciate such a song. “Hallelujah” wasn’t upbeat or catchy, yet it somber spoke to me. It’s a telltale sign of my ever-evolving music taste.

The quips and the characters' inappropriate remarks went over my head at the movie theater. Those moments passed by, yet I couldn’t forget the donkey who made constant remarks. Eddie Murphy wasted no talent on his animated portrayal of a donkey. He would captivate other kids and me well into adulthood.
