Tesla: Does Elon Musk Dream of Electric Droids?
Elon Musk has been mostly known for creating Tesla all-electric vehicles — but now it seems the billionaire EV manufacturer wants to try his hand in developing robots. And no, I don’t mean robots as in robotic vacuum cleaners. He wants to create robots that can walk and move just like humans can. If you have ever seen the movie I,Robot starring Will Smith, you can already tell that Elon intends for his robots to perform everyday functional tasks humans do. However, Tesla has a long way to go before they can bring it to an overall cautious market.
The Tesla CEO unveiled the concept of a humanoid robot called the “Tesla Bot” on August 19, 2021. The Tesla bot would utilize the same AI technology that is found in the company’s electric vehicles and would be fitted with Tesla’s auto-pilot cameras to navigate its surrounding environment. Musk also mentioned that the robot would be 5'8" in height and weigh 125lbs. A fully functional prototype won’t be released until later next year. As presumably expected, the reveal of this new machine came as a surprise to many that were in attendance at Tesla’s AI Day presentation.
