It’s easy.

That’s the best and the worst thing I can say about it.

And aren’t we supposed to know better? Don’t we go to the gym to lift things that don’t need lifting, to climb stairs that don’t exist, just because we know that the easy life will kill us eventually?

You know this. But your hairy monkey brain doesn’t really believe it, and billions of years of evolution have shaped you into a slick arrow point that seeks out comfort, like water that only rolls downhill.

No wonder AI was an easy sell.

It will make your job easier, the billionaires promise. You can sit at home and have a robot slave toiling away for you while you reap the rewards. Except we tried slavery before, too. And the best of us managed to convince the rest of us that slavery, as well as degrading its victims, corrodes the souls of its victors.

I know your digital pocket imp isn’t real. But you are. And taking the easy way out is going to destroy you. Not because there’s going to be some Skynet-style robot uprising, a…
