Leonardo da Vinci’s ‘The Last Supper’
‘The Last Supper’ — Leonardo da Vinci

This thesis embarks on a journey through time, exploring the profound shifts in art and society from a historical era I refer to as ‘the before time’ to our current epoch, ‘the after time.’ Rather than dramatic changes, it’s the subtle yet profound evolutions in culture, art, and society that bridge these eras, setting the stage for a nuanced understanding of the artistic transformation.

As an individual deeply rooted in a mosaic of diverse ethnic origins, my perspective as an American uniquely reflects the intricate interplay between a rich cultural heritage and the pervasive narratives of Western influence. Despite the colorful array of my ethnic background, it is the compelling influence of the Anglo-sphere’s cultural and aesthetic norms that predominantly shapes my perception of art and beauty. My journey through art history commences with the Renaissance, seen not as a break but as the pinnacle of the Medieval spirit. This profound connection between past and present is vividly captured in the spiritual depth and artistic excellence of Leonardo da Vinci’s ‘The Last Supper.’ This iconic work stands not just as a tribute to the era’s artistic genius but also as a testament to the complex fusion of divine inspiration with the core of human creative expression.
