I’ve been excited to see this “drag CATS” production since I saw the old logo with a new background color last autumn. Got my tickets early and waited

Finally the night arrived.

As always there is no efficient way to enter the Perelman PAC. It suffers from the bizarreness of itself. Architecturally a translucent cube, it doesn’t call itself “the Cube” like its downtown neighbor (equally overproduced, “the Shed” at Hudson Yards suffers from trying too hard and therefore being too expensive to use)

Here, instead of a roof opening to the air on giant rollers, there is a series of inside performance spaces that can be configured into at least 46 different stage/seat arrangements — each change costing someone around a million dollars.

Well and good. We are here for CATS in drag not architectural fiascos (or triumphs, depending on who you are) — ”we” being the members of this entirely sold out audience who are muttering “I hear they connected two performance spaces” and “oh shit did you see how many understudies there are today — like five!” — and we are being held in the lobby.
