Being stuck is the worst nightmare. The feeling of being stuck hinders our creativity, focus, and productivity. Which leads to frustration and the feeling of being paralyzed.

Whenever we feel we aren’t progressing, we feel stuck.

There are certain things which you might unconsciously be doing, that lead to the feeling of being stuck. In this article, I explained different reasons why we feel stuck. And ways to get unstuck.

Reasons for which you might think you are stuck.

#01. Being an Infomaniac :

Are you that curious cat? The one who is obsessed with learning?

Are you constantly Googling about something or searching about a billion topics on YouTube? Or you might feel the need to excessively check social media and news. Constantly looking for updates.

This constant need to be updated may end you up having the fear of missing out.

This unsatisfactory thirst for knowledge leads to being overloaded by the crazy amount of information, which adversely affects your ability to focus on tasks.

You might feel it’s hard to recall things. It reduces your mental sharpness and might even affect your sleep.

All of these things affect your productivity and you end up feeling busy all the time yet not progressing while keeping you stuck in information overload.

The best way to get out of being an infomaniac is to STOP. Breathe. RESIST.

If you get an urge to google something, open a new tab, or consume more information. Just take a step back and breathe. Resist that temptation.

Resist for just five minutes. And you will be able to consciously regain your control and improve your ability to focus for a longer period.

You will be able to detach yourself from the need of having all the answers here and now.

#02. The knowing-doing gap :

Are you the one who is passionate about self-developing?

You are committed to growth. You know a lot of stuff about a lot of different things. You know what you could do to develop. You know what you could do to achieve your goal.

You know it all, but you just don’t do it.

You keep absorbing the knowledge but you don’t bother to apply what you have learned. This is what the knowing-doing gap is all about.

You get stuck in endless consumption. That ‘ You know all but you don’t do ’ thing.

In this world of information where what you need is just one click away, there is that seductive need to learn and consume information which you might absorb your whole life and yet it’s never even started.

To get out of this knowing-doing gap, identify the one thing you need to put into practice and take action.

Don’t jump to new things until you invested time in implementation.

#03. Addiction to achievements :

You constantly looking for new goals and things to achieve. Before you even get the time to acknowledge what you have done.

You rarely celebrate and take a rest. You are constantly looking for action. You believe you are your achievement.

You are always short of time, there is too much to do and not much time. Constantly setting new goals and that never-ending to-do list.

You feel guilty when you stop working hard. You feel worthless if you are not achieving your goal. This often leads to self-doubts and self-criticism.

You start to question your self-worth because you feel you haven’t done enough of what you are capable of.

Ending in pushing yourself harder to achieve more ending up stuck in this never-ending loop.

You need to stop comparing yourself with others if you ever want to get out of this unending loop.

It’s okay if someone goes ahead of you, there is no one racing with you. Move at your own pace.

So go ahead, take some time out for yourself. Surround yourself with people who value you more than what you have achieved.

And remind yourself you are worth more than what you have achieved.

#04. Endless multitasking :

You keep switching tasks in your life or at work to avoid the pain of boredom. You become impatient and want things here and now.

You feel like you’re missing out when you are not doing anything. You constantly keep switching between tasks and can’t able to focus on one thing at a time.

One of the most common reasons people feel stuck is simply because they can’t focus, which means they can’t progress in whatever they are trying to achieve.

Which doesn’t help and you end up being all over the place. You aren’t able to be still for a certain time.

Your mind wanders all over the place but never remains focused on your current task.

You end up switching tasks and this loop continues, ending up with the feeling of being stuck.

Constantly switching can create a dopamine addiction feedback loop. You are rewarding your brain for losing focus and constantly searching for external stimulation.

It is important to make sure whatever you are doing is helping you to move towards your particular goal, rather than doing things which you think might give you the feeling of being busy.

Constantly doing things and switching between tasks is more stressful than rewarding.

So next time you feel bored and get the urge to open a new tab, resist it for five minutes. Stick with whatever you are doing or thinking.

This way you can resist the urge to move on to new things immediately and you will stop acting on impulse.
