Warning: Spoilers Ahead.

After the comedic death of Freddy Krueger in 1991’s ‘Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare’, Wes Craven rises from his nightmare-filled sleep to bring us a true ending to the series.

What follows is a film that sets up what would become the ‘Scream’ series, but instead of looking at horror movie tropes, ‘New Nightmare’ instead looks at the power of an icon.

After the final entry in the ‘Nightmare on Elm Street’ is released, Heather Langenkamp and her family, notably her son Dylan, start noticing strange occurrences such as earthquakes, threatening phone calls, and a slew of nightmares.

Heather suspects it’s an obsessed fan stalking her, but everywhere she goes she sees Freddy’s influence shaping the world around her.

When the line between the dream world and reality begins to crack, Heather must decide to become Nancy one more time before those she holds closest become Freddy’s next target.
