Congratulations, Ms. DeGise!
This past Election Day, November 7th, 2017, our very own history and gender studies teacher Ms. Amy DeGise, won a spot on the Board of Education along with Matt Schapiro, Lorenzo Richardson and Mussab Ali.
Not only did she win, but she won by a landslide! She received double the amount of votes as her competitors. She was also the only woman running for the Board of Education for this election.
Ms. DeGise has started her three year term in January 2018.
Ms. DeGise says that she was motivated by the results of the 2016 presidential election. She wanted to make a change stating at a local level. A key issue that she and her running mates all agreed on was school funding. Ms. DeGise wants to give less money to charter schools and start giving more to public schools. She believes that this will help make schools safer and help expand more programs for the students of Jersey City.
Here are some of the things past students have said about her:
“I love Ms DeGise and I am very proud of her. I admire her on being woke and real on today’s topics! Plus she’s the coolest!” -Jazmine Mangarun
“I am very proud that Ms. DeGise won the Board of Education election and I know she will make Jersey City schools safer! Ms. DeGise has been a very compassionate leader in County Prep and I am excited for the beneficial changes she will incite for education! Congrats Ms. DeGise! Hi, Ms. Degise,
Congrats on becoming part of the Board of Ed! I’m proud to say that one of my GREATEST teachers is in the Board of Ed. You are one of the kindest teachers I’ve met, and still are. You’ve helped me a lot and I enjoyed being in your class. Did you make sure to put your title in my recommendation letter? ;) Thanks so much for everything you did for me! From one of your awesome students, Jhe-ann. :)
Congratulations, Ms. DeGise!
