The work week can range from feeling light & fun to overwhelming and never ending. When you think about your to-dos between the end of the work day and the next morning you may not feel like you have enough time to do something fun with your partner or another couple. Here are 5 simple activities you can do with just your partner or other couples that only take 1–2 hours and in no particular order:

  1. Cook Dinner Together

Cooking is a love language and 78% of couples that cook together stay together according to a 2016 Light Speed GMI survey of 1,000 Americans, sponsored by Calphalon. It builds cooperation & can make talking about other areas of your relationship effortless. Not to mention it’s a lot of fun and usually tastes pretty good. If you struggle to figure out what foods to make, just let fate take a wheel. Write down all the foods you enjoy by category of protein, carb & fat in a circle. Take a pen or pencil, spin it in the air and whatever it points to for each category are the proteins, carbs and fats you’ll use to make whatever you can come up with. Have fun with it. 2. Go for a walk or hike somewhere new but local

Hiking and walks are a great couple or couples activity. It’s a casual way to connect with others, it’s free and hikes/walks can accommodate all schedules. Hikes and walks offer conversation, can be romantic, can be used for reflection, are inexpensive and ties us to nature. Take pictures, make sculptures from rocks & sticks or bring the pups. If the weather permits you can always plan to stop along the way and make it into a picnic too.

3. Take a workout class together

Ever heard that couples who train together stay together? Well there’s some truth to that based on the benefits. Research shows that exercising together can improve mood and relationship satisfaction. Taking a class together helps increase your bond or your bond with other couples by going through the same challenging activity. You can always talk about how it went after as well. Best part is the classes are usually 30–60 minutes and can easily be fit in during the week.

4. Attend a sporting event

Sporting events bring people together and help foster community. Attending one with your partner or another couple can be a fun event with a clear start time & end time for better scheduling. Professional games can range 2–4 hours depending on the sport. We recommend attending a game closer to the 2 hour timeframe vs 4 during the work week. If you’re someone that gets anxious before the next day of work attending a game can help. According to a British study by Better* — a UK-based charitable social enterprise providing access to community facilities found that watching sports can benefit your mental health. It won’t change your schedule the next day but can help you take your mind off of what you’re worrying about.

5. Meet at your local pub for Trivia

Trivia is one of the all time favorites. It’s great for a couple but even better for multiple couples. Assemble your team and compete for the typical restaurant or bar gift card. Trivia is also great as an icebreaker for couples to hang with other couples. You end up learning more about the people you’re with. The beer & nachos always help too. Stump Trivia is one of my favorites, they have some funny hosts.
