Assignment for Simulation and Modelling of Physical Systems (FI4002)

Myself
Hi my name is Almira Chusnul. Now, I’m in my senior year of Physics at Bandung Institute of Technology. Being a senior year student, it’s kind of stressful, busy, but fun! But lately, I’m trying to figure out my career path, what my interest is, and trying a lot of things I’ve never done before. Reading self-development book is one of my hobbies these days. It helps me living slower, taking a break from this hectic world, and loving myself more. Currently, I’m thinking to try a new career job as book illustrator. Since I saw a lot of book covers, I really like how they design those simple yet pretty cover. They also do a great job for choosing the material for their cover — I even saw a book with fabric material as cover! — and their book paper (usually illustrated book using a thicker material). I also do some crocheting, like making my own camera pouch, bag, etc. Doing my hobbies — despite of my hectic final project — is one of my priorities these days. It feels so relaxing doing something that can cheer you up and make you remember that you need a take a little break so that you still can go on.
You are so precious. So taking a little break is not a crime, it is a reward for doing so well for hanging on until now.
Reason I’m Taking This Course
This course, Simulation and Modelling of Physical Systems, is one of the classes that I’m interested in taking. It’s a required class to take for us, Physics undergraduate student. But, more than that, I really like the topics in this course, especially about particle-based simulation and Artificial Intelligence. Almost all of my friends took this class in their 7th semester, but I take it in my 8th semester. Even if it looks like it doesn’t really help my final project — cause I already had my method for data processing — , it still has some fun topics that I’m interested in. Also, taking it in 8th semester makes my 7th semester less hectic, so I can enjoy this course more and seriously learn its topics. I actually don’t really mind which class should I choose. But since the “learn by doing” really works for me, so I need to solve lots of task/problem to learn something and I think Mr. Viridi’s class method really fits me well.
I choose to take a slower pace, cause I want to get into it.
Topics I’m Interested In
From the syllabus, there are some topics that I’m interested in, such as simple particle system, particle-based simulation method, and artificial intelligence. Particle behavior not only can be seen in material, but also in everyday life, such as human interaction. Human complex interaction can be solved by considering human as particle. It’s such as fascinating phenomenon to be learned.
My Topic on Final Project
Final project that I’m currently working on is about application on sociophysics. In this project, I analyze the polarity of sentiment from movie review. Sentiment from people can be seen as particle with certain behavior. A movie review can attract people to watch a certain movie or not to watch it. That’s why it’s important to know the polarity of movie review in its opening week. I analyze the sentiment review in opening week because some films tend to have the most revenue or sales in the first week of screening (Ma, 2014).
RBL Project I Want To Do
Project or Research Based Learning (RBL) that I want to do before finishing this course is a sentiment analysis using particle-based simulation and Artificial Intelligence (such as Support Vector Machine). I choose this topic because it has some similarity with my final project, which is also about sentiment analysis but with different method. Also, it’s really fun working with people opinion and get to know more then analyze it. From the analyzing, we can conclude a lot of thing, whether we should buy a certain product or not, whether we should believe someone’s opinion or not, and so on.
