An Evening with Coursera Data Science & Women Who Code
This past Wednesday, we were thrilled to host hundreds of current and potential future Data Scientists at the Coursera office for an event organized jointly with Women Who Code — a global nonprofit dedicated to inspiring women to excel in technology careers. The goal of the evening was to provide an inclusive forum for discussing data science roles, projects, and career paths, and to encourage the development of a vibrant and diverse data science community.
The event kicked off with lightning talks by five Coursera Data Scientists, on topics that spanned decision science, data products, career development, and more: I introduced a framework for thinking about data science roles and defining your career path; Katherine Wong highlighted some of the many ways Coursera uses AB testing to build better products; Ning Liu discussed how the user’s voice powers both our decision science and data products work; Airong Cai covered the building process for a couple of our core discovery data products; and Miaomiao Wen shared her perspective on the transition from academia to data science.
