Cover is the best way for you and your friends to dine out — and today we’re making it even easier to share meals by introducing Float. Float allows you to split a check with friends before they’ve even downloaded Cover.
Cover lets diners focus on what matters — the food, the ambience, the service, and their friends sharing the meal. We designed Cover from day one to be unobtrusive — your phone stays in your pocket or purse during the meal, and we handle tipping and splitting for you. Dining out is inherently social, which is why we’ve always included the ability to effortlessly split a bill with friends.
Waiting to download an app and then creating an account and adding your credit card is tedious when you’re sitting down to enjoy a meal. Now you don’t have to.
With Float, when you invite a friend to share a meal, all she needs to do is reply to an SMS message. That’s it. Put your phones away and enjoy your meal. When you’re finished you’ll pay your share of the bill — and we’ll float your friend her share. The restaurant still gets paid the full amount.
Your friend will have seven days to sign up for Cover and add a card. Once she does, we’ll bill her for her share. If she doesn’t want to sign up, she can pay you directly, with cash, Venmo, or whatever you wish. We’ll then charge the outstanding balance to your card.
We’ve been testing Float with a few hundred customers and we are thrilled with the results. As of today all Cover users have the ability to float their friends wherever and whenever they dine. Great meals are meant to be shared.
