We have been overwhelmed with the interest we’ve received to date for #COVIDaction Data Challenge. The amount of enthusiasm and the thoughtfulness that has gone into the submissions continues to astound us. With more than 100 organisations submitting proven data solutions, we’ve already started the matchmaking process internally — ensuring DFID and its partners are aware of the solutions available that can assist LMICs in their response to COVID-19.

At the same time, we’ve also received hundreds of emails inquiring about the appropriateness of specific data solutions or questions about how unique offerings fit into the Data Challenge concept. We want to ensure we’re capitalising on all the great work that has been done to date, and for this reason, we are hosting a webinar to provide an opportunity for potential applicants to learn more about the #COVIDaction programme.

We will be joined by staff from DFID, Frontier Tech Hub, and the Data Challenge team. Over the course of an hour, we will highlight exciting developments currently underway with the #COVIDaction program, DFID’s Frontier Technology Hub generally, and present an opportunity to hear more about the Data Challenge. We will conclude with questions and answers about the Data Challenge.

In terms of timing, as we will be holding the webinar on 14 May, we are pushing back the submission deadline until 18 May, at midnight BST.

We will continue reviewing applications in the interim. In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, the last thing we want to do is delay the uptake of important tools. Please consider submitting in the interim if you don’t have questions or plan to join the webinar.

Please also follow us on Twitter (@hellobrink) for additional details on the webinar, and where we’ll be posting a call for questions in the coming days.

On behalf of the whole Data Challenge team, we sincerely appreciate all the time and effort you’ve put into supporting this effort to date. The interest in the Data Challenge has been truly inspiring.

We are very much looking forward to connecting with you next week.
