We have more good news from the Data challenge. Under the theme of data tools and sources, we have two more awardees that COVIDaction will be supporting via financial and technical assistance.

FCDO is awarding TWO orgs to support proven data collection tools and sources which enable a more targeted response to the pandemic.

A whopping 202 applicants responded to our open call and these were reviewed twice by a team of 24 experts who we are enormously grateful to for their time and diligence. A top 25 was shortlisted and further reviewed which brought us to the two we have today.

A quick search online will show you that there’s a lot of data collection tools and sources that have been brought online to capture and analyze data but the sheer number of tools and their appropriateness for a clear response can be a problem for those who are looking for the right thing to inform their response to the pandemic. This is why we chose this theme to focus on and support people and organisations who need these tools and point them to our awardees as a good start.

Allow us to introduce you to these wonderful awardees:

Simprints — We’ll be working with Simprints to document and assess responsible data issues associated with the widespread use of biometrics in the response to COVID-19. Together we hope to boost thought leadership on identifying the risks and benefits of biometrics in relation to vaccine delivery.

Ushahidi — By partnering with Ushahidi we can support its 1200+ community sites that are working to leverage information and data to those who are combatting COVID-19. Local communities have used Ushahidi to respond to crises since its inception in 2008. These communities have once again risen to the challenge and are now using the platform to collect data that assists in the worldwide response to the pandemic.

Finally, want more COVIDaction in your life? You’re in luck!

We’re hosting a Data Challenge showcase in January — showing off all our awardees! If you’re interested in taking part, sign up right here.
