DFID’s Frontier Technology Hub is working with a range of partners to identify, highlight and adapt data sources and collection tools that support action related to the COVID-19 pandemic in low and middle-income countries.

Many low and middle-income countries (LMICs) do not have access to data sources and collection tools that can be used by local, district and national governments and community-based organisations for (among others):

  • Contact tracing;
  • Supply chain management;
  • Deployment and training of medical personnel;
  • Providing food and other supplies to vulnerable populations; and
  • Tracking testing and infection rates.

The Frontier Technology Hub is looking for data collection sources and tools that are currently used or can be quickly adapted to LMIC contexts. These can come from anywhere, both developed and LMIC countries. These tools should have:

  • Adaptability to specific country conditions
  • Clear pricing/resource models for long term sustainability
  • Data security and privacy built into the tool/approach

This DFID challenge aims to identify organisations that have created and invested in such data collection sources and tools — and position the Frontier Tech Hub to curate a list of appropriate tools for LMICs, to compile the most useful and support the most promising.

APPLY: Submit an application to the data sources and collection tools that inform response challenge area here.

The deadline for submissions is May 18th at 11:59pm BST. After submission, we will contact you for additional information and to move to the next stage. Remember, you can submit multiple submissions, especially if each submission differs in substance, application, and topics. Please enter each submission on a separate form.
