The RHS theme reflects on the role of resilient health systems as a global response to COVID-19. Watch this video to learn more:

The innovators of the Resilient Health Systems cohort envision a future where innovative technologies strengthen effective, equitable, and resilient health systems that can prepare for, respond to, and bounce back from shocks, whether a natural disaster or a global pandemic.

We envision a future where shocks are met with flexible, proactive health systems with the resources and adaptability to respond directly to crises while maintaining the continuity of other essential health services.

In Uganda, the Infectious Diseases Institute at Makerere University through their digital health platform Digital Prevention, Care and Treatment (D-PCT) decentralises and localises health care services by providing people living with HIV and TB with remote access to pharmacies and consultations. D-PCT aims to ensure these vulnerable populations can continue to safely access their necessary care and treatment, even during a pandemic.

The future we are incubating ensures both urban and rural populations have access to pertinent health information and are empowered with the ownership of their care.

The future we foresee seamlessly connects community health data into national health systems, promoting tech-enabled surveillance and equipping governments with the data needed for decision-making. A future where health care workers who perform end-to-end service delivery are well capacitated at all times.

In Uganda, Smart Paper Technology bridges the gap between paper-based and electronic health information systems by allowing health workers to scan in data, lessening their administrative burden so they can spend more time delivering care.

This is a future where mindsets and behaviours by all those using and contributing to health systems are updated to meet these bold visions by bold innovators.
