I don’t like to talk about racism very much because it’s an emotionally exhausting topic to discuss, but I’m making an exception this time. Specifically, I wrote an article on the Black & White & Read All Over website about my thoughts regarding the ongoing problem of racism in football.

“Since I was almost always the only black player on the pitch then, I knew I couldn’t screw up. I had to be strong, I had to be great, I had to show no weakness because I, perhaps erroneously, felt that I represented the image of black football players.”
