What’s a common misstep you see communities make?

There are so many, but the biggest issue I see is when organizers assume that simply gathering people together builds community. A gathering of people is not the same as a thriving and connected community.

In order for a strong community to form, you have to think about individual relationships formed around individual moments.

The job of the organizer is to create opportunities for those singular moments to occur in order to facilitate relationships. When people are able to experience those moments enough times successfully within a group, that’s when a true community is formed.
