[Community], Lorenzo Musiu, Founder at Impolite and member of The Film Tech Office, Berlin
Coworking spaces are home to talented professionals all over the world. There are so many projects and work that is achieved every day in those workspaces and yet very little space to read about them. Coworkies - Coworking Communities is launching “made in coworking” a collection of interviews of different type of professionals based in coworking spaces all around the world.
Our very first interview took place in Berlin, Germany. We met Lorenzo Musiu, Founder and Managing director of Impolite, a creative agency focusing on production. With Lorenzo, we talked about Italy, work, inspiration, coworking, movies and food.

Hello Lorenzo and thank you for your time! Before we talk about the present and what you do now, we would love to know a bit more about your background.
Hello all, thanks a lot for thinking of me!Super briefly, I come from a tiny village outside of Milan. I studied acting since I was 6 years old and at some point I understood that the attention that I needed was not only limited to the stage but could have been broader and deeper, so I convinced myself that I needed to be a movie director (whatever this means). This is what I finally managed to “become” after years of doing a lot of things: from TV sets to fashion and advertising and then the startup scene in Berlin and around the world with my own movie production.
Thanks for your intro! Now, if we talk about today, what do you do exactly?
I manage a young company called Impolite which is a creative agency and production company pushing ideas of amazing creators to international brands that want to share and create meaningful content.
LET’S TALK ABOUT YOUR WORK
What was the “process” leading you to create Impolite?
I’ve worked in every media related industry since I was 19. Moving from TV to fashion and music to advertising and then to the movie industry I realized 3 important things:
- The creators are always undervalued and exploited.
- There is a huuuuge need of content (now more than ever)
- There is no need of massive and slow dinosaurs between you and the brand that’s paying for the content.
I put those 3 things together and I created a decentralized network of production and creation professionals from across Europe and together with them I do amazing things. I try harder and harder everyday to give people more power to express what they want to and find brands willing to pay for that.

By the way, why the name Impolite?
My mother always told me to stick to the rules a little more cause otherwise people will think that I’m impolite. Sometimes rules suck and I don’t care about what people think (middle finger).
How do you find inspiration for your work?
I talk to people and observe a lot. I read books and go to museums. I try to consume art as much as I can.
“
Take a lot of inspiration from what’s around me. Then suddenly something happens in my brain.
”
In my case the best ideas are the ones that are born due to constraints and struggles.
How do you organize your days?
I wake up at 6am every morning. I have the first coffee and I write down on my agenda the To Do list of the day. I watch something on Vimeo, I stalk filmmakers around the world and then I eat something before I go to the coworking at around 8.30am. The morning I drink a lot of coffee and I am over productive (I don’t know if the 2 things are related). I do all the shitty admin and sales stuff usually in the morning if I don’t have shoots or meetings. Lunch with colleagues or coworkers (if there is no lunch meeting happening) and then back to my desk. I really like to meet people and discuss ideas all the time either with my colleagues or with the people from the coworking.
I really like to put down creative ideas in the evening or in general when I’m tired because in those moments I have no inhibitions and it feels more natural.
What are your favorite type of projects?
- The ones that I don’t have to sell too hard.
- The shoots that I do with people I like and admire.
- The sets where I just need to direct without having other things to do.
- The projects with cool clients that show competence and passion for what they do.
- The ones that pay a lot of cashhhhh.
LET’S TALK ABOUT YOUR WORKSPACE
What is the name of your coworking space?
FTO. Filmtech Office :) in Berlin.
Why did you choose this one over the others in Berlin?
The co-founders are Gian-Piero Ringel (former associate of Wim Wenders) and Erwin Schmidt (also Wenders’ producer). I know them since before and when they told me about the space I was super happy.

You enter a curated environment of film and media people. The professionals that you interact with are not the hipster newcomers but people with a lot of experience.
”
I wanted to work from a great place where the community was highly selected. I wanted to be surrounded by people who are doing the same stuff that I do. People that I can talk with asking for tips or exchanging some jobs. I wanted to grow my network and have a very nice presentable space where I can meet my clients having the flexibility to book more desks when there are bigger productions happening and I need to have more people around me.
”
