Twilight Falls is the fourth book in the Shady Hollow cozy mystery series by Juneau Black. I’ll be reviewing this book in this article.
This month, I’m reviewing all the Shady Hollow series books 1–5. Recently, I reviewed the first book in the Shady Hollow series, the second Shady Hollows book, Cold Clay, the third Shady Hollow book, Mirror Lake. Summary
“Twilight Falls” by Juneau Black is a cozy mystery novel set in the whimsical world of Shady Hollow. The story follows the charming village’s anthropomorphic animal inhabitants. This cozy mystery novel continues the adventures of Vera Vixen, a curious fox and newspaper reporter. Accompanying Vera in this story is Chief Police Orville who is also her boyfriend.
While Orville and Vera picnic by the falls, a confrontation leads to a death, ruining their tranquil afternoon.Yet, when they recover no body beneath the falls, a chain of new mysteries unfolds. Orville and Vera team up to uncover the truth. In this fourth book.
The suspicious death shakes the peaceful community. Vera and Orville must solve the mystery to restore peace. As Vera digs deeper, she uncovers secrets.
Alongside Vera are Lenore Lee, Vera’s raven best friend and bookstore owner. Lefty, the thief raccoon and helpful friend. As well as an entire village of Shady Hollow residents.
They navigate the investigation’s twists and turns. They uncover hidden motives and unexpected connections.
“Twilight Falls” mixes classic detective fiction with a unique setting and charming characters. Fans of cozy mysteries and animal tales will find it engaging. The book blends suspense, humor, and heart in a charming village.
Main Characters
Vera Vixen: A clever and determined fox who works as a reporter for the local newspaper. She is the protagonist and leads the investigation into Otto’s death.
Lenore: A raven, Vera’s best friend, and owner of the town’s bookstore, Nevermore Books. Get the pun? It’s punny. Lenore provides valuable help during the investigation.
Orville: Hardworking police bear. He will be a more important character throughout the Shady Hollow series.
Lefty: A raccoon and a known town thief
Shelby Atwater: Otter who runs a repair business with his son.
Jonah Atwater: Otter and son to Shelby Atwater. In a relationship with Anastasia von Beaverpelt.
Anastasia and Esmeralda von Beaverpelt: The two beaver daughters of Reginald von Beaverpelt. Anastasia is in a relationship with Jonah Atwater adn Esmeralda works at the Joe’s Mug, the local cafe.
Isla Chitters: Mouse who works as a maid for the von Beaverpelts.
Muriel Lodge: A hedgehog that sells popcorn.
BW Stone: Skunk and editor of the Shady Hollow Herald and Vera’s boss.
Joe: A moose who owns and operates the local coffee shop.
Arabella Boatwright: Rat librarian.
Gladys Honeysuckle: Town gossip.
Sun Li: A Giant panda with a mysterious past. He also runs the town restaurant, The Bamboo Patch.
Barry Greenfield: An old hare and senior reporter.
Philomena Ambler: An officer of a nearby town.
Imogen Marrick: A hawk by Twilight Falls.
