Cognoscenti claim the Internet will change the world. But can it drive the creation of a professional sports league?

Betting on the power of the Web is Paul McMann, founder of the Collegiate Professional Basketball League. Three Internet firms — Lycos Inc., AcuNet.net and broadcast.com — have signed deals in excess of $1 million apiece to buy team naming rights. Talks with a fourth, Spree.com, are ongoing.
