KISA and Coinplug launch the first DID-based employee card for a Korean public institution
Greetings,
We are happy to announce that the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) and Coinplug have announced the official launch of KISA’s DID-based mobile employee card. This marks a big achievement for the development of blockchain technology in Korea as it is the first service of its kind being implemented in a public institution.
KISA originally announced its intention to implement a DID-based mobile employee card in its different offices back in August and selected Coinplug to develop the service in late September. After its development, the service was launched in December as an OBT (Open Beta Test) in Naju, Pangyo and Seoul offices.
Based on DID technology, the new service allows users to access their information easily and ensures a safe storage compared to the traditional plastic employee ID cards. Coinplug’s new service developed for KISA is the first blockchain-based mobile employee certificate in a public institution and it’s expected it will serve as a starting point for more blockchain implementations in the public sector.
The service provides non-contact authentication by implementing near-field communication (NFC) and QR code methods which support payments and access to the building. The service focuses on strengthening security for internal systems by providing groupware secondary authentication.
In addition, the payment function of the service allows users to pay in the building’s cafeteria and for office supplies, as well as to check their movements history. On the administrator screen, functions like mobile employee card issuance history and validation are provided, allowing users to conveniently record and manage their personal information.
The new service will not only benefit KISA’s employees, it will also support access certification for people visiting KISA offices. With this, external people will be able to identify themselves in a faster and more convenient way.
We are honored to have been trusted to develop the first DID-based service to be implemented in a public institution and expect this development to pave the way for the commercialization and expansion into the public sector of non-face-to-face services in the un-touch era generated by covid.
