Dustin Klein’s first solo show in Japan opened on the 7th September at Beams T in Harajuku. Notion Motion is a collection of work made specifically for this show, combining wooden sculptures made largely from found materials, together with paintings and recycled skateboard collaborations with well known Japanese artist Haroshi. Along with hand painted bags and other items connected to the world of bikes there was live screen printing on the opening night.

If you didn’t already know, Dustin is the founder and designer of Cadence clothing, originator of the the now world-famous Fast Friday event in Seattle, you may also have seen his part in the Mash SF video.

Starting out as a messenger in 2000, Klein began Cadence with a run of 50 shirts for the CMWC (Cycle Messenger World Championships) that completely sold out. Progressing to making functional everyday clothes you can live and ride in, Cadence combined everything he was interested in: biking, design, photography — constant creating. You can see further evidence of this drive to create on his website, from handmade furniture to installations at Dover Street Market in London.

The show runs from 7th — 22nd September at Beams T Harajuku
