Wouldn’t you like to know if your confidential email was shared?

We’re pleased to announce EchoMark’s $10M seed round, led by Craft Ventures. EchoMark is an information protection company known for a first-of-its-kind invisible watermarking solution that helps keep private information private.

Today’s communication tools have enabled the exchange of information in ways we never could have fathomed, it has also led to a piece of information being disseminated in a few clicks. While this presents a massive upside to humankind’s productivity and ability to knowledge-share, it has led to an exponential increase in private information entering the public domain. Each time this happens problems arise, trust erodes, immense amounts of value are destroyed, and lives are impacted.

Until EchoMark. EchoMark changes the way we keep information private. By embedding a unique, invisible watermark on emails and attachments, communication can continue to flow freely and information can be shared seamlessly — with the people it was intended for. An entirely new technology, EchoMark is the steganography of today’s modern world.

I can’t think of a better leader to develop this technology than EchoMark CEO and founder Troy Batterberry. Troy spent the majority of his career at Microsoft where he built digital rights management software that protects streamed content on platforms such as Netflix and Amazon. Prior, he did similar work at Sony to protect in-flight entertainment content. Before working in digital media protection, Troy did top secret weapons research for the DoD. His work on EchoMark takes some inspiration from this era of his career, where he used to personally sign the front of each document he received to attest that he was the document’s custodian.

At the heart of EchoMark is a very simple idea: to enable responsible stewardship and protection of information. After all, wouldn’t you like to know if the confidential email you sent yesterday has been shared without you knowing it?

Troy and the team at EchoMark are setting a new standard for how information is protected and shared, and we’re excited to be a part of their journey.
