Convenience Kills Creativity
I enjoy cooking. It’s always been a passion of mine and at times I have found it to be therapeutic.
The other day my godfather asked me if I could remember the last time that I cooked creatively and with passion. I could not tell him.
I tried to figure out where my creativity and passion for cooking went. I didn’t change. I still enjoyed it. I still found it therapeutic. Creativity on the other hand was lacking.
A few weeks ago I saw post about http://www.farmfreshonline.co.za/ and I ordered a box of fresh fruit and vegetables, it was delivered to my door. Convenient right?
After a week of cooking out of this (very convenient) box, I found my passion again, I was cooking creatively!
Even-though the process of getting the box to my door was convenient, the cooking part was not! Having to wash, peel, chop and prepare the raw ingredients myself was way more work than simply piercing a pre-prepared store bought, bag of steamed vegetables.
Seeing the raw ingredients in their most basic form brought me back to the reason why I love cooking, each ingredient poses a unique challenge in the way it has to be peeled, chopped and cooked. I had to go back to basics.
Going back to basics forced me use the skills that I had learnt over the years and employ these skills creatively.
My point is when it comes to business and cooking don’t choose the easy way or the convenient way, it kills your creativity.
Do yourself a favour go back to the basics and challenge yourself, it will pay off in the long run.
