What is fear?

For starters it is defined as “an unpleasant emotion caused by the threat of danger, pain, or harm” and it sounds terrible.

When we look at fear more closely we there a few interesting things to note:
Firstly, it’s an emotion.
Secondly, it’s caused by the threat of danger, pain or harm.
Lastly, it can lead to pain, danger or harm.

Let’s address emotions. We all know that they are temporary and that they disappear as quickly as they arise. In many cases they can be controlled by thoughts and our thoughts are influencer by habits, exercise and what we read.

“When we direct our thoughts properly, we can control our emotions.”
W. Clement Stone

A threat is only an intention or an aim, it has nothing to do with action. Further to that Charles Caleb Colton shared these wise words, “Those that are the loudest in their threats are the weakest in their actions.” the point is that that threats are just that, they are just threats, they are NOT guarantees.

Pain is never permanent. You may suffer for a short period. But after that short period the pain will be over, you would have learnt from it.

“To live is to suffer, to survive is to find some meaning in the suffering.” Friedrich Nietzsche

In summary fear is not real. Emotions come and go - they can be controlled, they don’t control you. Threats are just threats, nothing more and pain is temporary.

So what are you waiting for? Everything you want is on the other side of fear!
