What got you here won’t get you there.

Here I am, proud to be part of a successful company with an amazing story, with a founder who is legend in his field and who has become a good friend.

We have been growing despite the tough economic environment and team has been instrumental in achieving this.

To be able to grow at the rate we have been growing is an absolute privilege but growth brings it’s own unique challenges.

Growth demands more from the leaders.
Growth tests your culture.
Growth, not nurtured in the right way can kill a business. Jawbone, the fitness tracker business, facing liquidation is prime example of this.

Our growth has tested our leaders, our structures and our culture.
We had to act swiftly to deal with it.

“Out of adversity comes opportunity.” -Benjamin Franklin

Act swiftly we did, our CEO and founder introduced a flat structure realising that what got us here won’t get us there. Our old structure was very effective in getting our company to where it is today but the new flatter structure will help us deal with the future.

Despite the change being quite recent and the new teams still finding their feet, the future is looking bright. We adapted at the right time and will continue to do so in the future.

For me the lesson is simple:

When you feel like you have hit brick wall, that moment when when you realise what got you here won’t get you there, remember that it is ok to adapt.
The change won’t always be easy but it in time it will get you there.
