Lots of exciting new features in the update we pushed live a couple of days ago, including:

  • The voxel Fill tool. Now you can select the fill tool from the voxel tools menu at the top, choose your desired voxel material and replace a whole area of one material with the new material in one click!
  • The voxel Eyedropper tool. If you want to add more voxels in a material you’ve already used, you can select this tool and click the voxels whose material you want, to “equip” that voxel material, ready to use!
  • Emotes when you press keys 1–6 on the numpad. 👋
  • New voxel materials including Gravel, Rainbow 🌈, VolcanicRock and an update to the GlassStained material.
  • Various bug fixes and editor improvements. 🐛

We’ve also been working hard on improving our onboarding process as we expand our community of pre-alpha testers, so we have a shiny new “Learn” page.

At the moment this page is only available to logged in users, so if you are already a tester you can see it at https://play.crayta.com/learn and if you aren’t, then come visit us on Discord to get involved — https://crayta.com/discord!

In addition to our online activities, we’re also really excited to be taking part in Global Game Jam (GGJ) this weekend at the Warwick University site. If you aren’t already aware of GGJ, it’s a fantastic annual 48-hour event where people from all around the world group at local sites to create games on a specific theme. If this sounds like something you’re interested in, you should definitely find your local site here.

We (obviously!) think Crayta is a great choice for game jams, as even though we’re still fairly early in development, it’s already super quick and easy to knock games up. We regularly stream short game development on Mixer so you can watch and get a feel for just how simple it can be to make great games!

And (wow we are very busy at the moment!) we’re also exhibiting at Interactive Futures in Leamington Spa at the end of next week — if you’re around, come see us and say hi!

Or if you’re interested in the business side of games development, there’s also a free event on Thursday 31st in Leamington being run by UKIE as an Interactive Futures fringe event, where I’ll be speaking specifically about how to prepare for doing business with Chinese investors.
