We’re super excited to be running our first game jam in Crayta this weekend!

This will be a living blog post across the weekend, updated primarily by our UI/UX Designer (and resident game jam expert 😉), Shaun Wall.

Submissions are closed! A wonderful 14 games have been created!

We’re really excited to check out all the games submitted (i’m especially chuffed with Meat Baby’s ominous return)and look forward to seeing Adam’s reactions and screams of fury

20:45–23/08

Who loves puns? unarif apparently, who has submitted AMBUSH THE ADAM BUS which contains more puns per square inch than is considered safe.

Play it over in Crayta now!:

Ambush the Adam Bus is the most Adambitious game of the Crayta Summer Jam 2020.

Earn points by ambushing the Adam Bus and if Adam himself plays the game you can ambush him for double points!

Ambush him before he has a good time! #MadeInCrayta

19:20–23/08

Just over 12 hours left to finish up and submit your game! It has been great fun getting sneak peeks at what everyone is building, and I can’t wait for everyone (especially Adam) to play each others games whilst filling the air with beautiful curse words.

21:30–22/08

We’re 26 hours into the jam and are seeing some promising entries for the Ambush Adam theme! I’ve just come from touring a particular environment which I’m sure Adam will love 👀

Remember to rest and take some time to relax!

15:45–22/08

Remember: You don’t need to reinvent the wheel!
Got some mechanics you can’t figure out how to implement? Maybe some features you want to add but know it would take too much time? Browse the Community Packages tab and feel free to make use of packages that the community have created!

12:30–22/08

A wonderful second submission comes in from EyeGazeGirl, who has made the game ALIENS MOVING using the incredible eye gaze technology!

Considering Crayta will donate $100 to Special Effect for every game submitted, it is a warm and fuzzy feeling seeing a game made by someone advocating for, and using a setup supported by, Special Effect!

I have cerebral palsy and can’t use my hands, so this game was made using my eyes with eye gaze technology! I love the charity SpecialEffect, please give a donation to them if you like my game.

Check out her game in Crayta!

Toasyer over on our Discord has submitted “progress.”!

Welcome to progress! progress is a calming-stress type of game where you just jump onto platforms and enjoy yourself, but watch out! one mistake, and it can leave you screaming in front of your computer screen in pain, like adam!

Play it in Crayta now:

If, for some cursed reason, you find yourself wanting to use an image of Adam in his “seriously shaun if there wasn’t a global pandemic happening forcing me to stay 2m away from you I would come over and throttle you” state of rage, you can use them in your game using these URLs:

Whether you’re new to game jams or have a few under your impressive-looking belt already, we have a short video introducing the concept of jams, and imparting some bits of sage advice on how to take part:
https://youtu.be/kkcRwXN-tNo

tl;dr: Cut your scope in half, then half again — that game idea you thought of initially when the theme was announced was no doubt great, but unless you have a vat of coffee at hand, you’re probably not going to build it in time.

19:20 — 21/08

We’re live! The theme for this weekend’s jam is..

Ambush Adam

Take this theme as you will, the main point of it is to create something with frustrating and/or difficult elements — maybe a race with invisible walls, a shooting game where random bullets from your gun damage you instead or a platformer which can only be progressed by solving nonsensical puzzles.

This is a theme dear to our hearts here at U2G. We chose this after Adam’s frustrated outburst whilst playing an obstacle game we created on stream (sorry Adam, sort of.) — You can see Adam reconsider his choice of friends (namely me) here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=osywU9yYtKw

You can also play the game which caused his frustration over yonder: https://launch.crayta.com/play/yvwmjp7m

Remember, you have until 8am BST on Monday 24th August to create and submit your game to the Summer Jam via Itch.io!

Taking part in the jam? Here are some resources and tips you might find useful across the weekend!

⏳ Time is of the essence! Make full use of whichever packages you need and don’t forget to rest!💤

📦 Here are a couple of examples with two very different packages:

If you saw our stream on Wednesday, you’ll have seen the process we go through when designing a game — the GDD template is now available as a Google Doc for you to copy and make use of!

🙌 Don’t forget that you can find more packages (or send in a request) over on the forum.

And don’t forget to sign up over on our itch.io page if you’re taking part!
