Knowing how to write will only get you so far.

I’ve studied and practiced writing for years. I have a B.A. in English from a Top 15 university. I have a master’s in English. I’ve published 100s of articles on a variety of topics.

I’ve taught writing at multiple grade levels. Plus, I have read 100s (1000s???) of books over my life and have even bought a few courses.

But there’s still something missing…

Most days, I don’t feel like I’ve done anything (I’m not saying that’s healthy, it’s just the truth).

I see friends on Medium, Twitter, LinkedIn, and in bookstores who have done “more” than me. That’s part of life.

There’s also a bad habit I’m trying to break…

I consume more than I create. I can’t expect to reach those same levels unless I also write and make stuff.

It’s not enough to know the craft of writing. You also have to do the work and use the knowledge.
