Personal Progress Isn’t Linear, It’s More Like This

Things would be a lot simpler if everything was number go up.

Bitcoin.

The stock market.

Relationships.

Work.

Unfortunately, our skills and progress aren’t like that either.

It’s more like a circle.

You go up and down, but then come back around, with the circle growing bigger each time.

And you grow in multiple dimensions, not just financially, but also in your skills.

The circle starts small and then expands, something like this:

You hit periods of growth, you go down and back around.

But if you notice in the circle above, you are at a higher place than where you started.

You have made upward progress, even if it took you a roundabout way to get there.

When we’re driving, my wife hates u-turns.

She’d rather go another mile out of her way than just turn around.
