You know the story of Goldilocks, right?

Goldilocks searched for the perfect porridge, chair, and bed — not too hot or cold, not too hard or soft, but “just right.”

That was before the bears came in, but I digress.

When it comes to note-taking, we’re on a similar mission.

We’re bombarded with systems promising to revolutionize our thinking, apps claiming to be the ultimate second brain, and influencers showcasing their color-coded, perfectly organized notebooks.

But, hey, pause for a minute….

What if the secret to effective note-taking isn’t about finding the “best” system, but rather the one that’s “just right” for you?

The problem with extremes in note-taking

On one end, we have the maximalists.

Their notes are a labyrinth of tags, cross-references, and meticulously crafted indexes.

You’re moving a note into a notebook into a database only to start it all over again? Confused yet?

While impressive, these systems often become so complex that maintaining them turns into a full-time job.
