Hi this is Tim from Create-A-Lase your trusted source of creative and useful DIY Laser and printing projects as well as your one stop shop for your laser and printing needs. Today, I will be showing you how to do laser cutting a table name sign using Corel Draw. Don’t worry though, you can still use any Vector program of your choice.

Let’s get started on laser cutting a table name. This tutorial will essentially focus on how to create the design that will be used for the laser cutting.

The Steps:

Step 1: Create the File Name to get started.

Step 2: Basic Settings: Make sure to set it to 457 by 305 Mm to be optimized for our Rayjet laser as well as our RGB for the colors.

Step 3: Input the text: Select the text tool and type in your desired text for your laser cut table name and set to an appropriate size.

Step 4: Set the font style: Using the picker tool, choose your desired font style. We also set the size to 450 Mm wide so the sign text will be in proportion to the board.

Step 5: Make a box underneath the text: After making the box, make sure it is center aligned and place it under the text so it touches some of the points. Make sure the box is the same width as the text, for this laser cutting a table name tutorial we set it to 450 Mm. By the way, a useful tip here, if your letter is too low or too high like the letter “S” in our video below. Just select it with the “text tool, go to “object properties” to move the letter accordingly.

Step 6: Check the thickness: What we need to do is check the thickness of a straight part by zooming in using the “box tool” This is important so that our thinnest part is a little below the size of the material we will be cutting out of. For example, if our board is 3 Mm then we want to be a little less than that. To get a clearer picture check out our YouTube link below.

Step 7: Adjust the size if needed. Highlight the text and use the “Contour tool” to set the size.

Step 8: Object Manager: Go to object manager to remove the fill so we are left with the outline of the text prior to forwarding the design to our laser.

Step 9: Create another box: This box will be placed at certain points by copy pasting (Ctrl C and Ctrl V) and will need to be 10 Mm wide and 6 Mm high.

Step 10: Alignment: Align the boxes by highlighting and pressing Shift and T. After that, highlight them then press Ctrl G to group them all and press Ctrl C or copy and Ctrl V to paste then merge them together.

Step 11: Clip the edges of the box: This will make for nice rounded edges and will serve as the main board to support the sign. Before doing that make sure to press CTRL E so it is centered. Repeat the step to ensure only the outline is left and we are ready to laser cut.
