Hi this is Tim from Create-A-Lase, your trusted source of interesting and useful DIY projects especially with lasers. Today we will be having a practical DIY idea fitting with the current times. I will be showing you how to use laser cutting to make a face mask. Why a face mask? Well most of us are trying to keep ourselves safe during the Covid pandemic, and one of those ways is with a face mask.

This is also practical and safer because if you have the means to make one you don’t have to go out and keep buying them. At least, you lessen the risk of exposure and also spend a little less money on buying actual face masks. One thing you may ask is: “what if I don’t have a laser? Well you can technically still cut out the Vector pattern with a pair of scissors.

By the way, for more useful ideas that you can try or we can show you follow us on Medium and leave a comment if there is something you want to learn.

This guide will cover from actually creating the design, laser cutting, and until we get the finished product. Do stay until the end so you get to see the results of our laser cutting face mask tutorial. Let’s take a look at what we need.

The Materials:

  • Material based or Cloth for Face Mask
  • Laser Machine (Essential)
  • Elastic String (Or any string that will hold the side of the mask unto your face)
  • Measuring tool
  • Scissors
  • Corel Draw or any Vector program of your choice.

All right then, we have what we need. Let’s move forward with our laser cutting face mask guide now.

The Steps:

  • Step 1: Launch CorelDraw or any vector-based software like Illustrator or Inkscape.
  • Step 4: Place the string. After we cut out the shape of our face mask, we will now put the strings through the holes and this will purposely hold the face mask. Just measure the length of the string for an exact fit.
  • Step 5: Test and Fit: Try it on and just pull the loops over your ears on both sides and see how the laser cut face mask fits.
