I’ve been publishing articles on Medium roughly once per week for a month now. Today I’m posting a quick update on the results.

When I started this effort, my goals were to kickstart a writing habit, test out Writing.AI, and raise awareness for my fledgeling startup. I didn’t have many expectations for how this effort would pan out.

Without further ado, let’s dive into my Medium numbers for the past month.

Views, Reads, & Fans

Since July 31st, I’ve written five articles. As you can see below, traffic has generally increased steadily over this period.

Per-article traffic from my Medium account
Traffic for the created-with-writing-ai publication

Nothing earth-shattering so far, but the traction has been steady. I’ve been receiving referral traffic from a combination of Twitter, Facebook, and Medium itself.

I’ve also received a good amount of traffic from IndieHackers.com, where one of my articles was recently republished and had received 467 views as of this morning.

Publication Followers

The next thing to look at is follower counts and engagement for the created-with-writing-ai publication. At the time of writing this article, the publication has 17 followers.

This is actually higher than Writing.AI’s follower count on Twitter or Facebook, although I’ve shared everything in the publication via both sites.

I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the early growth of the publication and look forward to seeing how it continues to grow as I add more content.

Website Signups

The last item I want to mention is the difference in month-over-month website signups before and after I started publishing regularly.

In July, a whopping five people signed up to the Writing.AI prelaunch email list. In August, that number rose to 47!

I’ve made changes to the site’s landing page and been a bit more active on Twitter, but most of these new signups were the product of exposure related to these writing efforts.

In short, in terms of one of the most important metrics for a prelaunch startup, the first month has been a definite success so far.

Takeaways

A couple quick takeaways; things I’ve learned along the way:

1. Sometimes I’ll write things that don’t get much traffic. The longer a post and the more effort I’ve put into it, the more frustrating this can be. I’ve learned it’s best to not obsess over traffic and, instead, just let things happen after I’ve hit publish.

2. Traffic to the publication is growing, but it’s going to take a while. That’s okay, because I’ve started to see a steady stream of visitors on both Medium and the Writing.AI website. As long as things keep trending in this direction, all should be well.

3. Writing has been a grind at times, but Writing.AI has been helping. And the writing has helped make the product better. So far, it’s been a very positive experience.
