Break through the Brick Wall

With every new challenge we embark on, weather its losing weight, writing more, creating a new habit… There this struggle we go through to get started with it.

For example, I want to start learning how to play the piano. The initial phase is the hardest because I know nothing about playing the piano, it’s super boring and a little stressful to sit there and listen to myself miss half the keys. This is where I come up with 1743 excuses to do anything else but practice, this feeling, this force that keeps us from doing the work, is the Brick Wall.

Breaking down the Brick Wall when you’re starting out is very difficult because this is when you feel the most Resistance, when we’re starting out is when the activity intimidates us the most. It’s like driving a clutch for the first time, it’s so complicated how can we focus on so many things at the same time?

Well, there’s a secret that’s not really a secret because we all know it, but we’re really good at forgetting it when the time comes to start the work.

Once we’re able to break through the Brick Wall we find bliss.

When we reach the other side we actually find enjoyment in doing the activity we once found so daunting. This is when we reach the point where we’re able to drive a clutch while we’re on the phone (don’t do that though).

When it comes to activities like playing the piano, or going to the gym, we might still find some resistance to continuously practice, however, the resistance we feel at this point is a paper wall, much easier to break through compared to how we struggled in the beginning.

So whatever it is you need to learn, go for it. Punch through the Brick Wall, and you’ll be surprised by how good you can get at it.

Now go be awesome… ☺
