Information Networks programme and the Growth Hacking course (CS-E5002 Special Course on SE, starting in period 3, 2019) is hiring two assistants from December to March. Deadline 29th of November.

This is a rare opportunity to design and implement

a) perhaps the first ever university growth hacking course in Finland, and

b) the external communications strategy of the Information Network programme together with the programme, Athene, and Columbia Road.

In practice

The work is, on the one hand, simple and straight-forward assistant work and setting up a simple landing page. On the other hand, you will be directly involved in taking the external communications of Information Networks forward.

The practical work would be setting up the Information Networks webpage and branding/communications guidelines ready for course on Growth Hacking (GH). In other words, setting up a minimal but well communicating landing page for the Information Networks programme (an MVP, if you will). This website would be then used in the GH course so that the course participants can use the website to do their course work (i.e, growth hacking “customers” for actual events coming up in Winter and Spring 2019).

Is this for me?

Importantly, both assistants should have an interest and motivation to take Information Networks’ external communication forward. All experience related to the programme and communicating the gist of the programme is highly valued.

In addition to the GH course, the assistants would be working closely with Info’s strategy work on identity, “abi branding”, and the upcoming special events (namely, an Open Lecture Series starting in February, Information Networks seminar on March 22nd, and Abi recruitment in the Spring). See the course description for more details on the course.

The course itself has 12 students. The lectures are on Mondays 14–18 and the exercises on Wednesday 16–18. Your work would be close collaboration with the exercises run by Columbia Road’s teacher/expert. As an assistant, you would be automatically enrolled in the course, if you want.

Note! If you are already an active Athene Guild member of these events or strategic projects, you are more than welcome to apply for these jobs.

The technical knowledge required is two-fold.

(Note! The same person doesn’t have to have both skill-sets. We are looking for two people, after all :)

a) A person who is fluent with the technicality of web pages and building landing pages. Also, an understanding of web analytics & tools and SEO is required, because the website’s one function is to capture & measure the traffic.

b) A person who understands the basics of communication in the digital world: social media channels and audiences, content marketing, and communications campaigns. Also, talent and experience in creating actual content (visual, text, videos) is required, because the website will eventually be the #1 communication channel for outside target groups. Visual design skills are especially appreciated.

What we offer

Starting from December 3rd all the way to end of March 2019 (excluding Christmas break), 10h / week with the basic salary of an assistant (circa 19€/h, depending on your study credits). The starting time is negotiable, although we need to be ready for the course before Christmas.

As a job, this is a rare opportunity to get real experience on how “growth hacking” is done in practice, i.e., how to blend communications, web technology, and strategy work into one (a great multi-disciplinary “info style” job). The work you would be doing is right in the strategic core of Information Networks, and you would be working closely with me, Risto Sarvas (director of the programme) and the strategy work of the programme in general (i.e., Athene guild volunteers and Aalto personnel doing strategy work).

Also, as the course assistant on the GH course, you would get to know the experts from Columbia Road (a leading growth hacking consultant in Finland) with whom the course is implemented.

Needless to say, this job would shine bright on anyone’s portfolio and CV.

How to apply?

Before Friday, November 30th, send a free form one-page application to risto.sarvas(ät)aalto.fi with the subject “Growth Hacking Assistant” in the email. Tell about your skills, experience, motivations that are relevant when it comes to creating the first growth hacking course on this planet (!). Also, write about your motivations and knowhow when it comes to Information Networks’ external communications. Please add links to references of previous work, when applicable.

You can write in Finnish or English. If all goes well, I’ll fill the jobs before November 30th. I also reserve the right to ask the applicants for a short interview, if such is needed.

P.S. If you like to apply as a team of two people who together match the job description, that is perfectly ok.
