  1. Personal Finance for Dummies by Eric Tyson, MBA: there are more important life goals that will make you happier than the pursuit of money.
  2. Learned Optimism by Martin E. P. Seligman, Ph.D.: as opposed to learned helplessness, learned optimism can make you happy. It has to do with how you frame your failures and successes, either internalizing or externalizing them, or feeling that they’re permanent or temporary.
  3. Spark by John J. Ratey, MD with Eric Hagerman: exercise to 65–75% of your maximum heart rate (220-your age) for 45–60 minutes at least 4 times per week, and push it on 2 shorter 30–45 minute days with high intensity cardio (75–90% of your max heart rate) and resistance training to have incredibly positive impacts on your neurology and psychology, boosting memory and improving mood. It can get you out of depression, anxiety and addictions if you keep at it. Even walking at a clip is good to start. Stay physically fit and you’ll be happier than if you stay sedentary.
  4. Authentic Happiness by Martin E. P. Seligman, Ph.D.: authentic happiness is what you get when you tap into your “signature strengths” in whatever you choose to do. You can take the VIA Institute on Character’s quiz to find out your signature strengths here.
  5. Healthy, Happy
