For four years, Corsair’s Publishing ran a competition each year to see what the best BI platform was. We created content on various BI tools. We hosted content created by fans. We took votes and invited comments. Last year, we even leveraged our new training platform to stage voting.

Each year, we ended up with the same winner — Qlik. And honestly, it was rarely ever close. Qlik is a great platform! Is it the best? Maybe… maybe not. But you only go wrong with Qlik if you don’t have the right people to manage it. That is not true of so many other contenders. Actually, pretenders is more honest.

I wrote this article today because some one new clapped for this old offering:

Looker is a pretender. It pretends to be pretty. It just isn’t… unless you meant pretty bad. It is a bit of bad joke… but then Google bought them!

What about Tableau? Tableau remains one of the best non-enterprise solutions on the market. Emphasis on NON-ENTERPRISE. If your enterprise is surviving with Tableau, well good for you… but I am not interested in what must be a ridiculously siloed and D&A backward organization. So keep your story to yourself…

Look Tableau is great for learning. It is great for small start-ups. It is just great… until it isn’t. Enough said.

Article

This is what I said about Power BI last year. It still holds. It gives both Qlik and Tableau a run for their money. First, it is cheaper than either. Next it as powerful as both. It also enterprise and strongly tied to the rest of the Microsoft platform. Those are all hard to beat.

Maybe you hate MS… fair. Maybe you think Qlik is faster and prettier… perhaps. Maybe you think Tableau is easier to stand-up and learn… I won’t argue. It is still a huge contender.

Maybe you like something I haven’t mentioned. Maybe you were a fan of last year’s fourth horse — ThoughtSpot. I don’t believe they have arrived, yet. Maybe you are holding on to Microstrategy… you are not alone. Maybe there are support groups for that? But maybe you want to share your genius?

So in honor of the BI Madness 2020 that wasn’t — leave your comments below. Thousands of people read these articles each year and we are happy to be the platform to help you get the word out. Just be sure to bring game … we reserve the right to reply with research and judgement :)

As always — thanks for reading! And no worries — more articles are always on the way.
