The question of the day, did you remember Father’s Day was Sunday. No? Or did you know and yet you continue to forget? Well you aren’t alone. Father’s Day is often a forgotten holiday. The media doesn’t advertise nearly as much for Father’s Day as Mother’s Day. Sure, some stores do, but to generate revenue, after-all this is the goal of retailers. So, it’s no wonder it slips our minds.
The gift selection for Father’s Day is almost slim to none. The cards are so limited and boring, the messages aren’t heart-felt. I’m for certain Father’s Day greeting cards are recycled from year-to-year!
The typical gifts suggestions for Father’s Day are tools and ties. If I was a man (which every now and then I wish I was), I wouldn’t want no damn tie! A tie, for what exactly? Yes, men wear ties and ties do bring all the elements of a suit together, but seriously, a tie requires almost little to no thought. A tie in my opinion says, “hey I had time on my way home to get you a little something”. Or “I couldn’t think of anything else, so enjoy”. Tools? Well in my opinion, skip these too. Us women usually worry the hell out of our men to fix something, so tools just give us an incentive we need to antagonize them.
Again, it’s not your fault you thought of these two items as gifts because this holiday just isn’t talked about much, this should change. Think about a gift you would like for your birthday but in the male version and give that as a gift.
There are some amazing fathers out there whom in some instances, take care of their children better than the moms! They should be honored as such! If you have or know a great dad, tell them! Express your gratitude and appreciation for them!
