One of the ways for teachers to increase student engagement is by using gamified or game-based learning activities. While it seems like a daunting task to design your own games for the purpose of teaching and learning, there are many useful tools that could ease this process.

Here’s a list of 7 easy game creation sites/tools for teachers to design their own gamified learning materials. Best of all, they are available for free!

1. TinyTap — https://www.tinytap.com/

TinyTap has a simple and straightforward system for you to not only create gamified activities but also interactive lessons. It covers K-12 and even for all ages. You can make use of various media to build your “game”. There is also a huge collection of gamified lessons created by other educators.

2. EduCandy — https://www.educandy.com/

Educandy is an interesting tool for vocabulary teaching. With Educandy, you can create interactive learning games in minutes just by using a list of words that you would like students to learn. It comes with different game types from Anagrams to Word Search

3. ToyTheater — https://toytheater.com/

ToyTheater shares their useful tools for teachers to use in their lessons. Instead of using complicated game creation systems, they list tools such as timer, dice, spinner, scales, etc, which you could use as part of your own activities.

Wisc Online has a collection of games, which are created using their game builder. It has some interesting collections of games from beekeeper to Rapid Fire. It comes in a very engaging interface too!

WordWall is probably one of the most popular tools in developing gamified activities and materials. It includes 18 gametypes to choose from with the option to upgrade to premium account that comes with even more types to choose.

Similar to Kahoot! or Quizizz, but packed with different game modes, which can be very engaging to young learners.

Genial.ly contains a large number of templates to be used for gamification, from memory game to even escape rooms. The interface is user-friendly but the free version has some restrictions in terms of its settings and access to design elements. But it is still very powerful to design interactive activities!
