Yes, he is all things when it comes to being accomplished in the hip hop game. Yes, he’s a monster with a pen and has shown that time and time again. Yes, he happens to be white and the black community has accepted him and his greatness, as well as him acknowledging on BET’s Hip Hop Awards Cypher what playing field he stands upon. But, Em….why release work that TRULY isn’t your best!?

This year was filled with a lot of BS, strategic distractions as well as a hot political climate. Everyone of substance got in on it and weren’t afraid to air out their views, and that showed immensely in the music game. If their releases weren’t politically fueled, there was at least a track or two where that was felt. So comes the time of the BET Hip Hop awards and Em’s legendary (…that’s what it’s going to go down as, no matter the various thoughts that have floated around) bars, and if you know anything about the industry…you just know an album is coming. Boom, here it came…”Revival”! I was hype for it but to me it was a “don’t fix it if it’s not broke moment”, cause the vibe behind the entire project had Dr. Dre and his team no where near it. Therefore, not only did that shine a lackluster spotlight but his pen skills were also included.

Now, I’ll always love me some Em….but this was a real disappointment to me and I’m sure a lot of other fans. Truly, if you decide to release another project….PLEASE get back to what you know and what works!
