People have been cooking up different types of food shows since the earliest days of television. On TV, the formula is usually the same: it’s either a “chef in a kitchen makes a thing” show, or a “chef competition” show.

On YouTube, there’s a bit more on the menu. There are a fair share of ‘normal’ food shows too, but the internet makes people do some strange things with their food. You may have watched some of the bigger shows that have been around for years like Epic Meal Time, My Drunk Kitchen, or Nerdy Nummies, but if those have become a little stale for you, here are 5 newer food shows that are just as unique to help satisfy your appetite:

Ras Kitchen

Authentic Rastafari cooking straight from the mountains of Jamaica

Join Rasta Mokko and Matthew deep in the Blue Mountains of Jamaica for a glimpse into the the true culinary lifestyle of a genuine Rastafari family.

Rasta Mokko cooks pure and authentic Rastafari & Ital food in his makeshift outdoor kitchen. Simmered together with patois slang commentary from Mokko and editing by videographer Matthew, Ras Kitchen is a pretty unique viewing experience. Make sure you are not in a rush, because it can take three whole episodes to finish watching Mokko make some scrambled eggs:

Almazan Kitchen

The great outdoors, great looking food, and a friendly owl

Alex Almazan and his uncle Boki started Almazan Kitchen to show you what it’s like to cook mouth-watering food outside in nature. If you’ve ever seen the popular Primitive Technology channel — it’s like that, but with food.

Their videos are filmed outdoors in the middle of nature, and all the food is prepared on hot fires, stones, or with other nature-friendly cooking methods. To make things even better, their videos occasionally feature Mr. Ramsay the Owl as a co-star, and there’s none of that ‘talking’ business — just food.

The Katering Show

A food show for people who could not give a shit about cooking

Kate McLennan and Kate McCartney write and direct the Katering Show, a food show that makes fun of foodie stereotypes through awkward, Aussie humor. They describe the show as “‘”the journey of a food intolerant and an intolerable foodie”, and even though they may have a hard time making food that you’d find appetizing, both seasons are definitely worth a watch.

You Suck at Cooking

Cooking with a side dish of comedy and existentialism

You Suck at Cooking is another popular parody of the typical cooking show format. The somewhat mysterious creator behind the channel demonstrates some tasty recipes you can make at home, but that’s all a side show compared to the original music, hilarious skits and clever commentary that keeps you laughing while you learn about food.

Food Surgeon

If Dexter the serial killer had a food show, this would be it.

Food and surgery are not two things that most people would usually associate with each other, but the masked doctor behind The Food Surgeon somehow finds a way to fuse human surgery and cooking videos together in a way that becomes strangely intriguing.

With a mix of Operations, Autopsies, Dissections, and Transplants series, as well as video titles like Pregnant Pumpkin C-Section, the channel might not initially appear to inspire much of an appetite. But after watching the food surgeon skillfully extrude the center of a Reese’s peanut butter cup and replace it with the filling from an Oreo cookie, some of his frankenstein creations may start to actually look pretty tasty.

Extra Channel — Granny Pottymouth

A sweet friendly grandmother with a terrible mouth

Granny Pottymouth only recently emerged into the YouTube food scene with her Thanksgiving Tofucken video. Since then, she’s started a new channel where she’s been cussing up a storm in new cooking videos, getting into politics, and sharing her thoughts on UFC and Valentines Day.
