In 2020, the Department for Transport (DfT) estimated that there were 31,800 miles of major road in Great Britain in 2020, consisting of 2,300 miles of motorway, 29,500 miles of ‘A’ road, and 215,700 miles of minor road in Great Britain in 2020, consisting of 18,900 miles of ‘B’ roads, and 196,800 miles of ‘C’ and ‘U’ roads.

That’s a serious amount of tarmac!

As much as many of us certainly have a good old grizzle about the current disgraceful state of the road structure today in Britian, what with the seemingly ever-increasing rise of potholes, that we are all having to tackle while we are out driving.

So, as Barbara says below, “be like a shock absorber, and have a good laugh…”

‘Laughter is to life what shock absorbers are to automobiles. It won’t take the potholes out of the road, but it sure makes the ride smoother.’

Barbara Johnson.

Although, that isn’t much of a consolation prize is it, when it’s those damn potholes that are costing us drivers almost half a billion
