I spent some of the last two weekends in one of these for several hours. Two Saturdays ago I was in one for 7 hours. The ER was so full by the time I got triaged that they were talking about putting me on a gurney in the hallway. Thankfully, that ended up not being the case.

It all started in March of last year. From March to August I couldn’t keep anything down and lost 35 pounds because of it. I was poo-pooed and dismissed by my Primary. “There’s a stomach bug going around. Everyone has it.” Uh, not for 5–6 months they don’t and if there was something like that going around it would have been on the news and it wasn’t.

Fast forward to that Saturday and I am now down over 60 pounds and in pain almost constantly on my left side. When the pain gets bad enough I shove my fist in it just under that last rib and I’m in up to my wrist. Don’t cringe. It actually helps. I left with a diagnosis of colitis. And it only took 14 months to get it.

By this past Friday however I was really struggling. I never bought into the colitis diagnosis. One, they were supposed to do a urine analysis and they never did. They were supposed to give me a barium to drink so I’d light up in the MRI. They did the scan with no contrast. I…
