Courage is not the absence of fear, as you may think. True courage is being terrified beyond belief, but ‘stepping forward into the sun.’ It is taking that leap of faith, despite everything your body telling you that it’s not safe and that you should run back into the shadows. It is also trusting that some other way of living is more effective and happier than the way of living you are currently comfortable with or stuck in.

Police work has historically been a job; today it is recognized as a genuine profession. Today’s police force is comprised of highly trained, exceptionally smart individuals who possess specialized knowledge and skills.

Courage and confidence are sometimes thought of interchangeably, but there is a big difference. Confidence is more permanent; courage manifests in fleeting moments. Courage is when you find yourself running…
