Bakehouse Community Arts ( TBCA) is using the Creative Scotland Open Fund for Organisations to create short promotional films for 26 writers. We are dedicated to poetry and the spoken word, with particular emphasis on the work of Scottish and Scotland-based writers. The word written and skilfully shared, is the most democratic and inclusive of creative forms. It has the power to entertain, inform and enlighten; to change hearts and minds; to give voice and expression to every person’s experiences and insights; to shine light into dark places.

In line with TBCA’s creative vision we plan to create 20 x five-minute single poem/prose films by both established and new/aspiring writers; 6 x 30 minute ‘performer’ films of established writers reading and discussing their work; and 4 x 30 minute ‘composite’ films created from the five-minute offerings.

While necessarily self recorded because of the pandemic, writers will be given advice on obtaining the best filming result. Films will be professionally edited in house and be available to writers for their own promotional use, posted on The Bakehouse website, disseminated to our extensive audience base and our ‘composites’ will be offered to a wide range of Festivals as part of their digital output, developing our audience base, making our productions available to wider Scottish, UK and international audiences, yet remaining rooted in our community/audience base in south west Scotland.
