The Christmas of 81
December 25 is near, my favorite time of year
So much excitement and so much warmth to share
Coming home from shopping in such holiday bliss
I see my breath in the air; it is so cold and crisp
Seven years old, my eyes dreamy and bright
They’re reflecting the colorful neighborhood lights
Knowing that it’s just a couple more days to go
Just like on TV, I want to see that falling snow
I remember how we used to put up the tree
Playing soulful carols, our house was filled with such glee
The smell of my mother’s cookies filled downstairs
She loved to put red and green sprinkles on there
Every year, watching Rudolph, the Grinch and Scrooge
All of these elements got us into that yuletide mood
Christmas Eve is here, and I cannot wait
What will Santa leave for me when I wake?
I go upstairs, and then I make myself go to sleep
